R.U.X. Returns & Trespassing With Ambassador Theater!

Hello all,

So the rumors are true: R.U.X. will be making a triumphant return to the DC Capital Fall Fringe! If you missed your chance to see the multi award winning show over the summer, here’s your chance. You don’t get alot of second chances in life, so don’t let the opportunity pass you by! Stay tuned to the site for more info on performance dates and how to get your tickets, and make sure to check out the show website here.

And in the meantime, I have yet another show coming up with Ambassador Theater! And even better, I’ll be on the stage rather than in the booth! The show is called Trespassing and features the United States debut of two shows by Egyptian playwright Alfred Farag. Our first previews are on October 16th and 17th, and our grand opening is on October 18th. Tickets are on sale now, so click the link to find out how to reserve your tickets.

Hope to see you all there, and stay tuned for more upcoming theater goodness.

And The Winner Is…R.U.X.!

Wow. What an amazing month of theater it’s been. First of all, thank you so much to Silver Spring Stage for inviting me to be a part of Stop Kiss. I had such a fantastic time with the cast and crew, and we put on a great show. Special thanks to all who came out to support me, the show, and high-quality community theater.

And speaking of fantastic times, in case you were too square to be at the Capital Fringe Tent last night, R.U.X. walked away with the Capital Fringe Audience Award for Best Comedy! After five amazing performances (2 of which were sold out beyond Standing Room), this was just the cherry on top of an amazing experience. Thank you so much to all of the cast and crew who made this show so successful and an absolute pleasure to be involved in, with a special thanks to Maurice Martin (our playwright/producer) and Sun King Davis (our director) for bringing me back on for this project. And thank you to everyone who supported the show with your tickets, your laughs and your votes. So what does the future hold for R.U.X.? Will I ever don the coveralls again? All I can say is; Robots live forever.

So after working two amazing shows in a month, I will be taking a bit of a theater break to catch up on some of that ever-elusive sleep that I’ve been hearing such great things about. But stay tuned, because if I know DC Theater, I’ll be back in the lights in no time.

The Glowing Reviews Just Keep Coming!

Reviews-a-plenty for Stop Kiss and R.U.X. are up today! First, here’s a review from DC Metro Theater Arts on Stop Kiss, where they make the point that “The raw talent in this show is astonishing.” Read the entire review here.

I appear to be the talk of the town over at DC Metro Theater Arts, as they joined us for our R.U.X. opening and wrote another fantastic review for us. Read all the details here.

Fringe & Purge have also shown their support of R.U.X., with the mention that yours truly is “especially deft in his handling of this material”. Read their review here. Or listen to their podcast where our reviewer says that R.U.X. is his favorite show of the DC Capital Fringe so far. Listen to the first minute, then pick it up again at 22 minutes to get all of the R.U.X. goodness.

Tickets are still available for both shows. You can get those tickets here and here. Tickets are being snapped up for the last weekend of Stop Kiss, and we were nearly sold out for our first two shows of R.U.X. So now is not the time to dilly dally. Hope to see you there!

The Silver Spring Stage has updated their website, and tickets are now available to purchase online! We are open on June 29th (after a June 28th preview) and run through the 3rd weekend of July. In total, that’s 13 chances to see a show that I’m becoming very proud of.

Even on the first day they’re starting to fly, so now’s the time to reserve your seats. We have 3 evening shows, one night performance and a matinee, so anytime you want to enjoy your theater, we have you covered.

Come see both shows and you get a special prize: a huge hug from yours truly! If that won’t sell tickets, nothing will. Wet, sloppy kisses available by request only.

Stop Kiss Coming In June!

The theater life stops for no one. Last weekend was my opening for The Sunshine Boys for the Chevy Chase Players, and tonight you can come and see me in a staged reading for a new play called Render. Check out my Calendar for details on how to see both shows. But more good news comes down the pike: I will be performing this summer in Stop Kiss for the Silver Spring Stage! I’m very excited about this project, and I can’t wait to dive into the deep end with this talented cast & crew. More details on the show will be coming soon but, as always, my Calendar page has all the updates. And still, R.U.X. will be hitting the DC Capital Fringe stage in just a few months. I hope to see you there!

New Upcoming Projects

Busy times in the theater world! While R.U.X. prepares for the Washington DC Fringe Festival, two more projects are in the works. The first is a new 1 Act play called Capsmittment. Written by Jean Koppen, it’s the story of two best friends deciding to get season tickets for the Washington Caps. But does their relationship have what it takes to make such a big step? Winner of the 2012 Sportaculture Playwriting Competition, it’s being performed as a part of the Sportaculture 1 Act Festival.

The other upcoming project is a staged reading of a new play called Render. It will be performed one night only at the Round House Theater Education Center. For more details on both shows, check out my Calendar page. See you there!

R.U.X. Returns This Summer!

Great news: R.U.X. is returning this summer! Featuring at The Warehouse for the DC Summer Fringe, R.U.X. is a hilarious show about sexbots and the people who (try to) create them. Going against time, money, the law and possibly basic human decency, Louis Rockwell Jr. and his design team set out to make the perfect companion for anyone and everyone. This show was the runaway hit at the Hope Operas last fall, and I’m very excited to be reprising my role of Gary the hardware designer. The show is funny, touching, poignant and even philosophical. This is my favorite show I’ve worked on in quite a while, and you can see why this July! The performance dates are: Friday, July 13 @ 8:15pm; Saturday, July 14 @ 11:30pm; Tuesday, July 24 @ 6pm; Saturday, July 28 @ 5:30pm; Sunday, July 29 @ 2pm. All performances will take place at The Warehouse, 645 New York Ave. NW, Washington, DC, 20001. Please check my calendar for more info, and check back soon on how to reserve your tickets! For more info, head over to our official website at www.surlyrobot.com.
